Kamaishi City lost its large sightseeing boat in the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, however, the local communities have been calling to bring it back. The city developed a new “fishing boat cruise” for visitors to board fishing boats and tour the Kamaishi Bay. This experience has lower costs of operations that the original large boats and provides a more authentic experience to visitors, a new source of revenue for fishermen, , and has the potential to revive the fishing industry in the destination, making it more attractive to young generations.
