The West Region in Portugal is very prone to forest fires during hot and dry times. To help with these issue and keep their citizens safe, the destination hire and additional 15 fire fighters. Their main goal besides preventing fires, increasing the resilience of the territory and taming forest fires, is also to educate the local community on negligent activities and raise awareness about the risks of fire. The highly trained fire fighters are now providing a safe environment for rural populations in Oeste.
